Our Mission

At BREW Methods, we believe ecological knowledge is indispensable and deserves to be shared with everyone in an accessible way. The Bird-Boy was born from this mission—a rugged, reliable tool designed to bridge the gap between technical science and the curiosity of the everyday naturalist.

Our goal is to foster a deeper connection between people and the planet. By providing the tools necessary to identify, track, and understand the biological subjects around us, we empower individuals to become stewards of their local ecosystems. Whether you are a birder, a forager, or an avid outdoorsman, our technology is built to encourage discovery in nature's harshest elements.

Right to Repair​

We respect our users' intelligence and their right to own their hardware fully. What's more, we hope our product finds itself amongst the dinosaur bones of planned obscolescence. The Bird-Boy is designed to be maintained, not replaced.

  • Modular Hardware: Our rugged form factor is assembled to be accessible for internal maintenance.
  • Service Manuals: We provide documentation for maintaining the backlit LED display, physical button interface, and high-powered external camera.
  • Spare Parts: BREW Methods makes replacement components available directly to consumers, ensuring your device stays in the field and out of the landfill.

User Privacy​

The Bird-Boy device is intended to assist with geographic navigation, and as such records your location and activity when interacting with the device. However, Bird-Boy is also offline by default and will never expose your geographic data without your explicit consent. Bird-Boy comes pre-installed with a species database and therefore never needs to be connected to the internet to fully enjoy.

We promise to never seek or exploit your personal data at any time, and will always inform you when you optionally elect to expose your device's data to anyone else. Before sharing Adventures, Discoveries, or other data, you should configure your System Settings to withhold sensitive information.

BREW Methods, an American company, chooses to prioritize American jobs and American labor. All Bird-Boy devices and parts are constructed in the United States. We will never outsource the careful, attentive work needed to bring our vision to life.

Conservation Partnerships​

The Bird-Boy is more than just a gadget; it is a data-gathering tool for global conservation. We are proud to partner with leading environmental organizations to ensure the species sightings you log contribute to real-world science.

The Nature Conservancy​

We collaborate with The Nature Conservancy to identify and protect critical habitats. Anonymous, user-contributed location data from Bird-Boy GPS logs helps researchers track shifting migration patterns across diverse mountain ranges and wetlands.

National Audubon Society​

In alignment with our name, our partnership with the National Audubon Society focuses on avian protection. The high-powered microphone and camera on the Bird-Boy help populate vital databases of bird calls and sightings, aiding in the protection of endangered species through non-invasive monitoring.
